Tourism is a burgeoning industry in the Philippines. Its contribution to the Philippine economy in 2018 alone amounts to 12.8%, which is estimated to be 14.3% higher than in the previous year (PSA, 2019). Furthermore, tourism contributes to 5% of global carbon emissions, and is seen to increase by 150% between 2005 and 2035 if no mitigation measures are taken. The Philippine food service sector, a key link in the tourism value chain, generated sales which amounted to 242.1 billion pesos in 2016 (ASPBI, 2018), with restaurants comprising 23.4% of the food service and accommodation sector in the Philippines. Food loss and waste also represent as much as 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and is a main contributor to deforestation and the depletion of global water sources.

WWF is currently implementing a project on “Establish Low Carbon Consumption and Production in the Philippines,” coined as “The Sustainable Diner: A Key Ingredient for Sustainable Tourism” with a focus on transforming foodservice, particularly dining establishments in key tourism destination cities around the country, into a low carbon industry.

  • The primary role of the Integrated Marketing Communications Specialist, under the direct supervision of the Project Manager under the Sustainable Consumption and Production project of WWF Philippines and in coordination with the three (3) project technical specialists, is to develop and implement creative solutions for the project’s communication and marketing needs, using a mix of creative skills and marketing expertise to impact both internal and external players in the achievement of the expected outputs. His/ her main function is to develop his/her skills so that he/she provides quality communications with the goal of improving internal information systems while increasing awareness, credibility and visibility of the project’s effort to the general public by working through different channels to reach certain previously agreed upon target audiences in coordination with the three technical specialists. The overall objective is to stimulate information exchange, interaction and to spur positive action across all audiences.Specifically, the IMC Specialist is expected to do the following:
    • Create and implement multi-channel communication campaign materials and marketing programming to support project optimization in our diverse WWF conservation portfolio
    • Perform public relations and communications activities in support of the promotion of the project.
    • Conceptualize and create marketing materials for print and web applications together with the Visual Media Officer.
    • Plan, coordinate and implement all communication campaigns (print, broadcast and digital)
    • Analyze and report campaigns, providing results and actionable recommendations to the stakeholders (social media report, etc.)
    • Identify opportunities to collaborate with other WWF projects in order to create holistic content integrating existing projects
    • Ensure that all project materials follow branding guidelines mandated by the WWF Network
    • Coordinate with WWF PH’s Communications Team
    • Assist other team members in project events and initiatives as needed (e.g. administrative work, hosting, registration, ushering, etc.)
    • Document and cover all project events and initiatives together with the Visual Media Officer
    • Create a quarterly newsletter for the project stakeholders
  • Communication Plan in accordance with the project budget
  • Project updates through articles, newsletters etc.
  • Data as requested
  • Network of media partners in coordination with the Sustainable Consumer Specialist
  • Updated project articles for press releases and feature articles as requested
  • Content for websites, blogs, podcasts, banner ads, radio (e.g. videos, listicles, etc.)
  • Edited manuscripts as requested
  • Reports as requested by the project team
  • Other requirements as the need arises
  • Holds a degree related to Communications, Journalism, English Studies or any other relevant field of study
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in the field of communication
  • Experience in development work is an advantage
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills and the ability to write clear, concise and compelling copy
  • Experience in marketing programming and promotions tailor fit to target stakeholders
  • A keen interest and skill set suited to public relations and communications, including the production of media kit materials
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal and communication ability
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
  • Familiarization with Adobe Creative Suite and the ability to develop and design marketing materials including brochures, signs, posters, and web graphics are preferred
  • Works extremely well under pressure and is able to multitask on concurrent activities
  • Enjoys working in a hands-on and collaborative team environment but also has the ability to work independently and under pressure, possibly across cultures and time zones
  • Photography, videography and/or proven social media experience are assets
